The Wild and Free Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971 gave the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) oversight of “these living symbols of the pioneer spirit of the west.” BLM management of wild horses has resulted in 45,000 wild horses currently being held in long term holding facilities, more than roam free in the wild. Sky Mountain is dedicated to innovative action to keep wild horses free.
